If politics was a fashion brand, nobody would wear it!

It’s no secret many of us feel that politics lacks relevance in our lives.  In fact, one of the biggest stories of the upcoming election is likely to be apathy itself.  Many of these negative feelings exist because we don’t feel like we are actually being given any real choices.

Think Act Vote is a project to give us all the opportunity to share the positive choices we would make if only we got the chance.

Think Act Vote was started by a group of friends whose backgrounds are in ethical fashion, politics and design. What brought them together was a shared frustration about the negative view of politics held by so many people in the UK today and an ambition to do something about it – creating a community around the choices we make for our future.

You are invited to take part...

Think Act Vote are searching for the perfect design to make a print t-shirt championing their campaign from up and coming designers, artists and illustrators.

An online public vote will determine a shortlist of 10 designs.

The ultimate winner will be decided by the Think Act Vote judging panel, made up from some of the best-known faces in ethical fashion and design, including ethical hero Katherine Hamnett, celebrated illustrator Daisy de Villeneuve, the original ‘anti-preneur’, Cyndi Rhoades and our very own... the right honourable... judge Joe Komodo.

The winning design will be produced by Komodo and will available to purchase online and in selected shops across the UK.

SA8000 Certification !

We are proud to announce that our K1 factory in Kathmandu has been awarded the internationally recognised SA8000 certification for human rights in the work place. This makes it currently the only facility of it's kind in Nepal.

It has taken many months of working closely with the factory and inspectors to implement the changes necessary to bring the facility in line with SA8000s rigorous guidelines. But it was worth it !

We look forward to the challenge of helping our other factories to achieve the same status in the coming years...

JOE KOMODO's FAMOUS LAST WORDS...

A unique collection of poetry, which wittily comments upon the world, it's morals and how we live and interact with one another.

Through a combination of fable, humor and touching humanism, Joe Komodo conveys powerful and touching messages whilst maintaining his characteristic homegrown spirit and global feel.

The poems themselves are a hotchpotch of reflections as seen from a "Rickshaw window travelling the rickety ol' wheel of life". Each copy has been lovingly hand screen printed in Kathmandu on Himalayan Lokta (rice) paper with illustrations by Toby Leigh.

"Joe Komodo is a one-off, this book is a delight!"
- Joanna Lumley

"Kings Cross to Khao San Road - Kathmandu to... well, Komodo. Travel is something magic that inspires us all... the Isle of Dragons has certainly done a good job with Joe!"
- Tony Wheeler (Mr Lonely Planet)

10% from all sales of this book will go to the FREE TIBET CAMPAIGN as we continue to support their valuable work. More information can be found here > www.freetibet.org

KOMODO are proud to announce their recent membership to the MADE-BY organisation. This certifies all of our products ethically traded.

"MADE-BY is an umbrella label used by fashion brands to indicate their clothes are okay: ie. they are produced in a sustainable manner. MADE-BY is the first fashion initiative that focuses on environmental and working conditions throughout the entire production chain.

MADE-BY helps brand clean up their manufacturing process. We give advice and develop, together with Solidaridad - the expert in the field of fair trade and the environment - production chains in which a garment can be manufacturedin a sustainable manner from start to finish. In India, Peru and North Africa, we have set up organic cotton projects and help sewing factories aquire Social Accountability 8000 certification. We will soon also start incorporating Eastern European, Chinese and Turkish producers within our network."

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOE !

It was twenty years ago today
Joe Komodo took his friends to play
Making clothes with our natural style
in places where the people smile
So let me introduce to you
the gang of fashion pioneers....

JOE KOMODO’S OPEN HEARTS CLUB BRAND !

2008 sees Joe Komodo and friend celebrating 20 years of the brand.
The image above was inspired by one of Joe's favourite songs. It contains a diverse bunch of people who, for one reason or another, are included in JOE KOMODO's OPEN HEARTS CLUB BRAND. Whether it be for their humanitarian, political or artistic achievements, their personal involvement in the brand at some stage over the years or simply because (as with all here) we dig their vibe and are officially honorary KOMODO DRAGONS...
